INSTRUCTOR PROFILES

dave and dummy colour compressedFor as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to find and study “The Perfect Martial Art!”

I started on my Martial journey,  when i was 17, to find a system or style that was both effective and realistic. I joined the local Muay Thai kickboxing branch in Mackay, Qld. Trained under Stephen Fox, I was prepped for a bout in traditional settings against international Thai competitors.

I seeked more fulfillment and found myself a member of a local Aikedo School.  Following that I joined the local PCYC and trained in more conventional boxing, that didn’t consist of any competitions.

One facet that always held a strong motivation with me was the ability to provide safety to oneself and those close to us, I began a career in Security to further my understanding of this and contribute to the industry, which left alot to be desired.

After taking a break in my Martial journey to have a family, I attended a Wing Chun school in Townsville, Qld.   The principals that this system was based on seemed so effective and logical that I thought it almost to good to be true.

As family would have it, we relocated to the Sunshine Coast. I tried to find a local Wing Chun school, but to no avail. I found an established Brazilian Ju Jitsu Academy and began to cross-train in ground work to further my experiences, and a well established Karate School to maintain development in my martial journey.

Less than a year later, The Sunshine Coast Wing Chun Academy was established under the instruction of Andrew Withford Maya Brown and Cameron Low.  Resuming my Wing Chun training I discovered a far more internal and balanced system that i had previously thought possible.  As i continued to train and study the art of Wing Chun,  I continued to improve with both movement and force.

Earlier in my life I had suffered a near fatal car accident , rendering the discs in my lower spine very damaged as well as injuries to knees and hip. Through the internal Tai gong process of connection and focus, I have ‘to date’ relieved considerable levels of pain, and poor body posture and balance.

Through the guidance and teachings of the Instructors of the Sunshine Coast Wing Chun Academy and delegates of the Australian Wing Chun Federation, I have studied certified courses in sports coaching and obtained the Rank of Instructor.

Through my training and affiliation of my senior instructors, and family lineage, I have also had the opportunity and privilege to meet and train with Grand Master Chu Shong Tin, I maintained  bi-annual visits to Hong Kong to pay homage to our Grand Master until his passing in 2014 to continue to improve my training and development to provide students with the most comprehensive teachings and guidance available outside of Hong Kong.

For the next few years i will completing my studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Degree in Acupuncture to continue my understanding of the Chinese Tao adaption of culture to health and well being and harnessing the potential energy available from the body.

In my journey thus far, i have discovered the the power that can be developed by the correct alignment of physical, emotional and sensory components is incredible, and I believe we all have the capacity to obtain them.  The Internal focal aspects of Wing Chun Kung Fu are an amazing way to discover the potential of the human body and mind.
